Die Trauerkapelle im Kloster Reute ist das irdische Tor für alle Schwestern der weltweiten Franziskanergemeinschaft. Durch die schlichte Gestaltung mit dem schützenden Dachüberstand ist die Kapelle ein Ort der Ruhe und Besinnung. Die tragenden Wände bestehen aus Stampflehm, einem Material, das den Kreislauf des Lebens symbolisiert – Erde zu Erde und Asche zu Asche. Sie verjüngen sich nach oben hin, sodass das Licht durch die drei schmalen Deckenfenster einfallen kann und eine subtile Verbindung zwischen Himmel und Erde herstellt. Die große Doppeltür aus massiver Eiche öffnet sich wie weit ausgestreckte Arme. Diese symbolische Geste der Begrüßung richtet sich auf eine schlichte Bank vor der Kapelle. Die Kombination aus dem alten Ahornbaum, dem Garten und der Kapelle hat den Vorplatz des Friedhofs in einen Ort der Ruhe verwandelt, an dem sich die Franziskanerinnen und Angehörigen versammeln können, um die Verstorbenen zu ehren und ihrer zu gedenken. 

The funeral chapel at the convent in Reute is the earthly gateway for all sisters of the worldwide Franciscan community. As a result of the plain composition with the protective roof overhang, the chapel is a place of peace and reflection. The load-bearing walls are made of rammed clay, a material symbolising the cycle of life – earth to earth and ashes to ashes. They taper towards the top so that light can slant through the three narrow ceiling windows, creating a subtle connection between heaven and earth. The large double door made of solid oak opens up like arms spread wide. This symbolic gesture of welcome is directed towards a plain bench in front of the chapel. The combination of the old maple tree, the garden and the chapel has transformed the cemetery forecourt into a peaceful place where the Franciscan Sisters and relatives can gather to honour and remember the deceased.
