Die von den Architekten SRAP Sedlak und Rissland Architekten entworfene überdachte Abstellanlage für Fahrräder ergänzt die fahrradfreundliche Infrastruktur in der Nürnberger Innenstadt. Am Südeingang des Hauptbahnhofs gelegen, bietet der lange schmale Pavillon einen trockenen und sicheren Platz für rund 400 Fahrräder. Neben seiner Funktion als Fahrradabstellanlage ist der Unterstand auch ein wesentlicher Bestandteil des neu gestalteten Nelson-Mandela-Platzes. Das filigrane Bauwerk zeichnet sich durch eine luftige, weiß lackierte Stahlkonstruktion aus. Zwei übereinander liegende Schichten schlanker Pfosten - vertikal und diagonal - erzeugen ein markantes Äußeres mit Moiré-Effekt. Ebenso wie die Fassade ist auch das Dach schlicht und auf das Wesentliche reduziert. Konzipiert als funktionales und städtebauliches Element, könnte das flexible System auch an anderen Orten eingesetzt werden. So sind die Architekten derzeit dabei, Varianten ihres Fahrradunterstandes zu entwickeln.

The indoor parking facility for bicycles designed by the architects SRAP Sedlak Rissland Architekten complements the bike-friendly infrastructure in Nuremberg’s city centre. Positioned at the south entrance to the main railway station, the long narrow pavilion provides a dry and safe space for around 400 bicycles. In addition to its function as a bike parking facility, the shelter is also a fundamental component of the newly designed Nelson Mandela Square. The filigree structure is characterised by an airy, white-lacquered steel structure. Two superimposed layers of slender posts – vertical and diagonal – create a striking exterior with a moiré effect. In line with the facade, the roof is also sleek and reduced to the essential elements. Designed as a functional and carefully detailed urban feature, the flexible system could also be implemented at other locations. Thus, the architects are currently in the process of developing variations of their bicycle shelter.
